چکیده

The experimental status of stable bound states made out of heavy quarks is reviewed. The need for a way to deal with the non-perturbative transitions involved calls for precision measurements on one hand, and for discovery of as yet undetected states to confirm predictions on the other. In this article, recent experimental contributions to heavy quarkonia spectroscopy and decay will be reviewed, mostly from data analyzed by the BES and CLEO collaborations. The most dramatic recent discoveries include the detection of the first stable L = 2 state, and a first non-pionic hadronic transition in the Υ system, and a first measurement of χcJ → ΛΛ̄. Scans of the ψ ′ and Υ(1, 2, 3S) resonances are used to add information on partial and total decay widths.

Heavy Quarkonia

Recent experimental results on heavy quarkonia spectroscopy and decays are reviewed. In particular, new results are discussed on charmonium spin singlet states, bottomonium D-states, photon and hadronic transitions from heavy quarkonium states, and the unexplained narrow X(3872) state.

Effective Theory for Heavy Quarkonia Decays

An effective theory approach to heavy quarkonia decays based on the 1/mQ expansion is introduced. Its application to decays in which the two heavy quarks annihilate is discussed.

Studying the production or decay processes of heavy quarkonia (the bound state of heavy quark-antiquark) is a powerful tool to test our understanding of strong interaction dynamics and QCD theory. Fragmentation is the dominant production mechanism for heavy quarkonia with large transverse momentum. The fragmentation refers to the production process of a parton with high transverse momentum whic...

Spectroscopy, Leptonic Decays and the Nature of Heavy Quarkonia *

We examine the electronic width ratios of Υ resonances below the BB̄ threshold by means of an effective (Cornelltype) QCD potential incorporating 1/mb corrections obtained from a prior fit to the bottomonium spectrum. From our analysis we conclude that the Υ(2S) and Υ(3S) states should belong to the strong-coupling (nonperturbative) regime while the Υ(1S) state should belong to the weak-coupling...
